Ducati Four-valve L-twins new generation the Panigale
After 11 years Ducati restyled the 4 valve L-twin Testastretta into the Panigale (2012).
Many details, like ultra thin closing camlobes, are used from the D16. The chain-driven camshafts is new.
Like the Toyota F1 engine we now see DLC coated camfollowers [camshafts are obviously not (yet) coated] which must reduce friction and bring higher performances. An automatic decompressor (starterhelp) is another valuable feature.
Article (in Dutch) about the Ducati desmo cams and the oil pressure (nozzle) feed to the Panigale cam shafts. This article was published in Strada, the magazine of the Dutch Ducati Club.
